Eleven Potential Runners for Waller in 2015 Chelmsford Stakes

August 30th, 2015

Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller appears likely to dominate the running on Saturday’s Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick after revealing his will include a total of eleven of his stable’s stars in nominations.

Waller has experienced notable success in the Randwick feature racing in recent years, and will in fact be gunning for a hat-trick in the Chelmsford Stakes after saddling Hawkspur to success in its two most recent editions.

Waller could not have started the new season any better; saddling Royal Descent to success in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago, and has confirmed the popular mare will lead his attack in the 2015 Chelmsford Stakes.

“She has trained on really well,” Waller said.

“And Kermadec has also improved so I expect him to go well.”

Further to the two key Group 1 winners, Waller revealed a plethora of his stable’s stayers will make their Spring Carnival returns in the 2015 Chelmsford Stakes.

“We could have eleven horses in it,” Waller said.

“As well Royal Descent and Kermadec, we will enter Beaten Up, Preferment, Who Shot Thebarman, Opinion, Junoob, Moriarty, Foreteller, Hawkspur and Grand Marshal.”

Winner of the 2013 edition of the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m), Royal Descent has continued to figure as a strong and consistent performer for Waller through her 26 start career; posting a total of five wins ad 12 minors.

Unlucky not to return to the winner’s circle through an impressive 2014 Spring Carnival campaign, the Redoute’s Choice mare finished second in each of the Warwick Stakes, Chelmsford Stakes, Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) and Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m).

Kermadec returned to racing this year in great form; stamping his claims as one to follow in placing fourth in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m), third in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) and a luckless fourth in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m).

Running on for third in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m), the Teofilo entire produced a monumental turn of foot to take out the major Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) on Day 1 of The Championships.

The 2015 Chelmsford Stakes nominations are due to be taken by midday today (August 31st).
