Danleigh Wins 2012 Chlemsford Stakes

September 8th, 2012

Experienced gelding Danleigh has taken out the Group 2 2012 Chlemsford Stakes (1600m) in comfortable fashion at Warwick Farm today.

Hugh Bowman held the nine-year-old just off the pace before allowing him to show the finishing ability that has seen him win four Group 1 races as he hit the straight.

From there nothing was stopping the nine-year-old who took the lead and bounded away to claim a one-length win ahead of Secret Admirer and Lamasery.

Trainer Chris Waller was elated at the result and describing the veteran as “more like a four or five-year-old” and said he would now head to the Group 1 George Main Stakes on September 22.

Hugh Bowman was also thrilled with the result and praised the training effort of Chris Waller to nurse the veteran back to his best after a throat operation.

“I’ve got to give a big thank you to Chris Waller and his staff,” Bowman said.

“He was the best horse in the race and all he had to do was recapture some of his Group 1 form and he was able to do that today.”
