2010 Chelmsford Stakes Final Field & Preview

September 2nd, 2010

The action of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival continues this Saturday with a bumper day planned to run at Randwick headlined by the $175,000 Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m).

A nine-horse final field will take to the track in the 2010 Chelmsford Stakes with Chris Waller’s Metal Bender sure to start as the Ladbrokes.com.au favourite.

Five-year-old Danasinga gelding Metal Bender made an impressive return to racing a fortnight ago winning the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) and has drawn ideally with barrier one for Saturday.

Stablemate Triple Honour who finished second in the Warwick Stakes is also running in the Chelmsford, drawn in barrier six and due to be ridden by Glyn Schofield.

It will Honours List gelding Triple Honour’s third successive appearance in the Chelmsford, the 2008 Doncaster Mile winner narrowly beaten by Gallant Tess that year before running a close third to O’Lonhro last year.

Other top chances worth checking out the Ladbrokes.com.au odds on for Saturday’s showdown include John P Thompson’s duo of Count Encosta drawn well in barrier two and Run For Narra, Group 1 winner Theseo and the Peter Snowden-trained Purple.

The 2010 Tattersalls Club Chelmsford Stakes is scheduled as race five at Randwick for Saturday.

The other feature races on the card include the second leg of the Princess Series, the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1400m), where Parables will attempt to repeat her sensational win in the Silver Shadow Stakes, and the Group 3 Tramway Handicap (1400m) featuring Jessicabeel, Cannonball and Sniper’s Bullet.
